All women LOVE handbags. Right now as I write this article I have a collection of bags in all sizes, shapes and styles covering my bedroom floor. We love handbags as much as shoes (or even more) due to their versatility and variety. They are a daily essential for all women, and we just can’t do without them. Every true fashionista also knows that the perfect handbag can make or break an outfit like any statement accessory.
However, as Yvadney pointed out last month, the major designers have been moving toward more practical handbags for women. It was a major trend through the Spring/Summer 10 runways and you can see why… as when we start wearing lighter, breezy outfits for the hot days, we don’t want to carry around an oversized handbag. Alexander Wang, Burberry Prorsum, Chanel, Lanvin, Balenciaga, Oscar de la Renta, Diane Von Furstenberg, and Marc Jacobs have all been designing and releasing smaller bags with longer shoulder straps, pouchette’s, medium sized clutches and handheld hobos for the Spring/Summer. As always they vary massively, with embellishment being the key design technique used to create very different and individual looks.
For practicality this Spring/Summer, the perfect solution is the cross body. It’s a stylish little carry all that keeps your hands free, essential belongings close and your wardrobe looking just as chic as it would should you be carrying a satchel.
They may be small, but tiny bags will become the big accessory trend this year thanks to the no-fuss, grab-and-go movement they symbolise. We have been checking out the recent designer and high street collections and these bags come in all shapes, colours and styles so you are never going to be stuck for choice. As mentioned above though, look for long chains and straps on cross-body bags as they have an effortless and modern appeal.
So ladies, this Spring/Summer hang up the lug everything everywhere bag, and opt for the softer and more simplified look which lacks in size, but more than makes up for it in chic.
