‘Bacne’ is another term for back acne or body acne. It tends to form on the back, upper arms and the buttocks and can take several forms: pimples, blackheads, pustules and cysts, which are painful and form deep under the skin's surface.
How to treat bacne?
- Wash your whole body with Neutrogena Body Clear Body Wash, or another medicated body wash with an active ingredient of 2% salicylic acid, concentrating on the areas with pimples. Wait a minute or so before rinsing to get rid of all the oil, and to let the medicine sink in and do its work.
- Exfoliate by using an abrasive sponge (Buf-Puf is one brand name) or a loofa. Don't scrub too hard, or you'll increase irritation.
- Moisturize with an oil-free, medicated lotion, such as Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturizer. Alternatively, use a non-medicated lotion, but be sure that it is guaranteed to be non-comedogenic.
- Spot treat with acne medication cream. Since you are already using salicylic acid to wash and moisturize, use a different medicine for spot treatment, such as 2.5% benzoyl peroxide. Do not use 5% or 10% benzoyl peroxide if you have extremely sensitive skin, because this will increase irritation. If you're sensitive to benzoyl peroxide, a 10% sulfur solution may work for you instead.
Beach Method
Have your back submerged within the salt water for about 10 mins
- Sit in the sun for about 10-15 mins. The sun will dry out the pimples.
- Repeat step 1 and 2 a couple of times. You will notice results within the first two days
How to Prevent Back Acne
Exfoliation is a great way to get rid of dead skin cells that tend to build up on the back, buttocks and back of the arms. Use a sugar scrub (milder than salt scrubs) in the shower on a weekly basis.
